What do you know about ABS sensor?

In life most people can drive, and many people know about Anti-lock Braking System(ABS), but how many people really know about ABS sensors?

The ABS sensor is used in the ABS of motor vehicles. In the ABS system, inductive sensors are used to monitor vehicle speed. The ABS sensor outputs a set of quasi-sinusoidal alternating current signals through the action of the ring gear that rotates with the wheels. The frequency and amplitude are related to the wheel speed. The output signal is transmitted to the ABS electronic control unit (ECU) to realize real-time monitoring of wheel speed.

Main species

Linear wheel speed sensor

The linear wheel speed sensor is mainly composed of permanent magnets, pole shafts, induction coils and ring gears. When the ring gear rotates, the tooth tip and the tooth gap alternately oppose the polar axis. During the rotation of the ring gear, the magnetic flux inside the induction coil alternately generates an induced electromotive force. This signal is input to the ABS electronic control unit through the cable at the end of the induction coil. When the speed of the ring gear changes, the frequency of the induced electromotive force also changes.

Ring wheel speed sensor

The ring wheel speed sensor is mainly composed of permanent magnets, induction coils and ring gears. The permanent magnet is composed of several pairs of magnetic poles. During the rotation of the ring gear, the magnetic flux inside the induction coil alternately generates induced electromotive force. This signal is input to the ABS electronic control unit through the cable at the end of the induction coil. When the speed of the ring gear changes, the frequency of the induced electromotive force also changes.

Hall type wheel speed sensor

When the gear rotates, the magnetic flux density passing through the Hall element changes, which causes the Hall voltage to change. The Hall element will output a millivolt (mV) level quasi-sine wave voltage. This signal also needs to be converted into a standard pulse voltage by an electronic circuit.

ABS sensor is an important part of ABS system. ABS can give full play to the effect of brake during driving, shorten the braking distance, effectively prevent sideslip or tire locking during emergency braking, increase the stability of the vehicle and increase the steering controllability of the vehicle, It can avoid the violent friction between the tire and the ground, reduce the tire consumption and prolong the service life of the tire.
